Product Grouping

A Walk-through on how to group your sibling variants for display in your REVIEWS.io widgets

Written by Mollie Herbert

Introduction 📖

Product Grouping is a vital tool used to group variant(s) of a product that may not be direct variants in your product catalogue. When the setting is active, groups will be used to determine the review stats in widgets, For example, providing the SKU of one product in a group, will return all reviews from that product group 🛍🤝

Requirements

✅ Active REVIEWS.io account

⭐️ Available on Grow and Plus plans

Navigation 📍

  • Log into your REVIEWS.io account

  • Click into Collection >> Product Catalogue

  • You will then need to Enable the 'Manual Product Grouping'

✅ After this is enabled, you can go back to Collection and choose 'Product Grouping'

What happens when you enable Manual Product Grouping? 💡

Enabling Manual Product Grouping disables the default platform-based grouping and gives you full control to define your own custom groups. This is what the toggle confirmation message is telling you — once it's on, your custom groups take over from any automatic grouping your platform previously applied.

Important: Adding a product to a group does not automatically display reviews. It only defines which products belong together. Reviews will only appear in your widget when they are already linked to a SKU inside that group.

For reviews to display after setting up a group, all three of the following must be true:

  1. The reviews are already published and approved in your Timeline (not moderated or pending)

  2. The reviews are linked to a SKU that belongs to the group — not just any SKU on the product

  3. The SKU used in your widget or on your product page matches a product inside the group

Not seeing reviews after adding a product to a group?

Work through these checks in order:

  • Go to your Timeline and confirm the reviews are published (green, not red/moderated)

  • Check SKU matching — go to Collection > Product Catalogue > Unmatched SKUs to see if reviews are linked to the wrong SKU and reassign them if needed

  • Allow up to 1 hour after approving a review for it to appear, due to caching

  • If you're on Shopify, refer to the Shopify Product Grouping article for platform-specific tag requirements and sync timing

Instructions ⚙️

From here, you can:

  • Create Product Groups

  • Add Products to existing groups

  • Edit and Delete existing groups details

Once you have done so, if a SKU is picked up from that particular group, all SKUs within that group will automatically display through our widgets ⭐️

Bulk Product Grouping

You can also group your products in bulk, which may make this a lot easier for you if you have a lot of groups to add.

To group your products, head to Collection >> Product Catalogue >> Product Groups

Then choose 'Bulk Edit'

In order for the file to upload correctly, it must be formatted as below, with Column 1 containing SKUs, and Column 2 containing the Group Names.

Products can only be assigned to 1 group

Products that have already been assigned to a group will be moved to the newly created group name

Once your CSV file is created, you will need to use the 'choose file' button, which will allow you to pick the file from your device.

The results will then be emailed to the email address shown, this will be the login email address, however, you can change this:

If you are happy with the CSV chosen and the email address added, then you can select 'Upload CSV'

Note: If you enter a product group name that already exists, the selected product(s) will be assigned to the existing group name, and products in the group previously will not be removed.
